Competitive Benchmarking for Recipe Apps

Based on the competitive benchmarking, we recognized opportunity areas and brainstormed features the app can have to place it at a unique position in the market with its own USPs.

Mock Press Release for the new app highlighting its unique features in the market
To test out the features with users with mid-level cooking proficiency, we requested participants to map out a sheet of actions/ concepts such that they mark out sentences that most appeal to them. This was preceded by a 20 min in-depth interview with 6 participants.

Persona developed to resonate with the market placement and intent of the app
To concentrate on the food heritage aspect of the app, we focused on two main features
(1) My Recorded Recipes: Users can add their own authentic/ fusion family devised recipe to the app
(2) A Map feature that displays authentic, fusion, and local recipes all around the world. It integrates immersive features to show the user about the region and recipe and highlights local cooks, providing them with a platform for their recipe.
User insights like "I always edit a bit from any YouTube recipe video I follow, and then I can never remember what I change each time" encouraged us to integrate a 'Personal Note-taking' feature within Recipe pages that stores itself in the Favorites page.

The Search and Filter Flow concentrated on proficiency levels with respect to the chosen cuisine, so users can learn different cuisines as per their comfort, dietary restrictions, and time taken to cook.

The Food Library is a Favorites section that hosts recorded recipes—family heritage recipes that users can upload. They can voice-record family recipes, and take a sense of ownership for the recipes that are hence linked to their name.

Users can add notes to the recipes on the app. This is helpful when users adapt recipes as per their tastes. The Saved notes can be viewed from the specific recipe page, and the Favorites page under Recipe Notes

The Map feature is highlighted right on the Home Page. It holds authentic recipes from arounf the world in a map and list view. Users can toggle between Authentic, Fusion and Local recipes for different geographical regions zooming in and out in an engaging manner. The recipes hosted on the Map by the app have immersive videos attached to them making users feel more connected with the people associated with different local cuisines around the world. They can also trace their family recipes hosted on the app.
